SAVE THE FROGS! Workshop Wrap-Up and Tyler’s and Kevin’s Indictment

We were excited to hold the first official stop of our tour at the SAVE THE FROGS! Education Center in Berkeley, California. SAVE THE FROGS! is the world’s leading amphibian conservation organization, whose mission is to protect amphibian populations and promote the respect and appreciation of wildlife. Michael Starkey, chairman of the SAVE THE FROGS! Advisory Committee, introduced the group, as well as Citizens For An Animal-Free Six Flags, an activist group that fights for the release of the animals held captive at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Vallejo.

We are grateful that so many awesome folks came to the workshop and engaged with us during the discussion. We talked as a group about the Delta campaign, the importance of building coalitions, and staying safe in the face of State repression. The workshop included an especially lively and informative discussion about grand juries, helped by the fact that a grand jury resistor and member of BACRPR, a grand jury resistance group, was in the audience and shared information.

This workshop was only our first official stop, and a promising start to what’s sure to be a rewarding tour. It was also a nice contrast to what happened the following day. The morning after the SAVE THE FROGS! workshop, we headed down to our Veggie Grill fundraiser in El Segundo, California, where we were meant to pick up Tyler Lang so that he could join us on tour. However, the FBI and JTTF arrived at Veggie Grill before we did and took Tyler into custody. He has been indicted on federal charges under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, along with Kevin Olliff. See Will Potter’s article on Green is the New Red for more information.

Tyler supports our continuing the tour without him, and we are going forward. If anything, this event has only reinforced the 936063_1509852155896202_4490178680321680749_nimportance of sharing information with activist on withstanding State repression and staying safe in our campaigns against animal exploitation. We have decided that any tour funds left after tour will go to the Kevin and Tyler legal support fund.

Remember, the Animal Rights Conference is happening all weekend in Los Angeles, and The Bunny Alliance, Resistance Ecology, and the Earth First! Journal are tabling there all weekend and a Bunny Alliance organizer is speaking. Come by and say hello!
